Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) / Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD UT)

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) and Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) are advanced ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) methods that provide accurate imaging and sizing of internal flaws. These techniques utilize sophisticated multi-element probes and digital signal processing to deliver high-resolution data for critical evaluations.

Advanced NDT Technology

Phased Array (PAUT)

PAUT uses a multi-element probe to electronically steer and focus the ultrasonic beam, creating sectorial, linear, and focused scans. This allows for detailed cross-sectional imaging (S-Scans) of welds and components, significantly improving defect visualization and characterization.

Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD)

TOFD uses two angled probes (a transmitter and a receiver) positioned parallel to a weld. It measures the time difference of the ultrasonic wave diffracted from the tips of a flaw. This highly precise method excels at accurate sizing of defects, especially through-wall sizing of cracks, making it superior to conventional UT for height measurement.

Key Applications

Complex Weld Inspection: Ideal for inspecting complex geometries and welds in pressure vessels and piping systems.

Automated Long Seam Scanning: Efficient and consistent scanning of long seam welds with automated systems for increased reliability and repeatability.

Corrosion Mapping & Monitoring: Provides detailed wall thickness mapping and tracks corrosion progression over time.

Industrial Integration: Extensively used in refineries, power plants, and chemical processing facilities where safety and accuracy are paramount.

Code Compliance: Ensures testing and reporting are in accordance with international standards (ASME, API, ISO, etc.).
